Located in North Yorkshire Moors National Park and within easy reach of Yorkshire Dales National Park. Local National Trust and English Heritage properties include Rievaulx and Byland Abbeys, Helmsley Castle, Nunnington Hall and Rievaulx Terrace and Temples. Nearby are privately owned stately homes such as Castle Howard and Duncombe Park. Sutton Bank and a chalk horse cut into the hillside are only a few minutes away. Popular market towns in the area include Helmsley and Thirsk where there is a plentiful range of shops and restaurants as well as indoor and outdoor swimming pools. Pub with restaurant within walking distance of site. Approximately 16 miles away in Pickering there is a Steam Railway which runs through Heartbeat Country and Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo is also nearby. East coast resorts such as Scarborough are just over 30 miles away and the City of York 28 miles to the South has its beautiful Minster, Museums including the Castle Museum and National Railway Museum, plus an abundance of shops. Directions to site: From Helmsley take B1257 Stokesley Road for 1.5 miles. Turn left along road signposted "Scawton 3 miles" for approximately 2.5 miles. At foot of ascending hill turn left along tarmac road signposted "Bungdale Head Farm". Farm half a mile inland. From Thirsk on A170. (Caravans take alternative signposted route and approach from Helmsley). After leaving Sutton Bank, pass Hambleton Hotel and take first turn left signposted "Scawton" and "Rievaulx", Pass through Scawton village and continue for half a mile. At foot of descending hill turn right along tarmac road signposted "Bungdale Head Farm". Farm half a mile inland. |
